Remembering service to the nation

The Australian war memorial is the national memorial of Australia and it is dedicated to all in the armed forces and those supporting them, who have taken part in the Commonwealth of Australia wars. The war memorial is situated in Canberra, which is the capital of Australia. It opened its doors to the world in 1941 and today it is one the most significant memorials, which attracts visitors from all over the world.

Canberra's war memorial comprises three separate areas:

The beautiful Hall of memory is the very heart of the commemorative area with its feature stained glass. The tall domed chapel set in the shape of an octagon with walls of tiny mosaic tiles, holds the Tomb of the Unknown Australian soldier. It is in the commemorative area where the Canberra Remembrance Day and Anzac day services are held.

The Australian war memorial is also home to numerous exhibitions, which are continually changing. "Conflicts 1945 to today" features innovative technology and tells touching and powerful stories of Australia's involvement in wars, over a period of 6 decades. This is just one of the numerous events and exhibitions you may wish to see you may wish to see when visiting the memorial. Free 90 minute tours are conducted daily and highlight the galleries.
