National Science and Technology Centre

Questacon is Canberra's science and techhnology centre and is located nearby to the National Library and the shores of Lake Burley Griffin. Questacon as it is otherwise known features over 200 interactive exhibitions, which relate to science and technology and is a much loved and visited family attraction. The centre opened its doors in 1988 and was the first interactive centre of its kind in Australia. The centre displays a range of different science themes, interactive exhibits and shows all aimed at teaching science and technology in a fun way.

Questacon's interactive science attractions

Questacon's major unique exhibits include Awesome Earth, Measure Island, Mini Q, Perception Deception, Sideshow, Terrasouras and Wonderworks.

Awesome Earth

Awesome Earth - this attraction allows visitors to experience an earthquake, cyclone and lightning all at close quarters. This provides a unique and fun way of learning about geology and meteorology; it explains the concepts of energy transfer and wave motion.


Mini Q

Mini Q - aimed with the younger child in mind up to 6 years of age, where they are to take part in role-playing as astronauts or scientists in space. There are different areas in which to learn, as you play including water, sensory, active, and quiet.


Terrasaurus

Terrasauras - in this area you come face to face with giant animatronic dinosaurs, including the majestic T-Rex, stegosaurus and the maiasaura.


Wonderworks

Wonderworks - this section allows you to explore fascinating science phenomena. The exhibit focuses on beauty, symmetry and patterns featuring exhibits such as the pendulum snake, flow tank and the light harp.
