Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve

The Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve is located at the edge of Namadgi National Park just a short drive from Canberra. Covering an area of over 54 square km the reserve is home to the large valley floor, Gibraltar Range, and Tidbinbilla Mountain. The slopes of the valley have a history of European and Aboriginal heritage. The Mountain is said to have been used for initiation ceremonies and they are a place of significance spiritually, to the Aboriginal people. The reserve holds many stunning animals and plants within a wide range of different habitats. These include grasslands, wetlands, sub-alpine, wet forests, and dry forests.

The Sanctuary at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve opened its doors in 2008, and allows visitors the chance to get hands on experience and take part in real encounters with some unique wildlife in Australia. The sanctuary is situated in the Tidbinbilla wetlands which have been upgraded and features such as a duck eye view walk in boat, board walk, exhibits and a scenic path system for visitors to enjoy and to ensure that they see Australia’s wildlife in natural settings. Visitors are also able to enjoy numerous recreational experiences in the reserve and children delight in playing in the Nature Discovery Playground. There is also a visitor's centre with an interactive computer program about the species of birds in Tidbinbilla.
