Canberra deep space communication complex

The Tidbinbilla space station is situated in Tidbinbilla, which is roughly a half hour drive out of Canberra and it is one of just three in the world. It is also referred to as the Canberra deep space communication complex, and it was opened officially in 1965. The station has played a huge role as a part of NASAs deep space network and the exploration of science. The centre is a unique experience and a place to learn all about Australia's role in space exploration. School groups are welcomed by staff and the centre is a learning environment, which is suitable for students of all ages.

At the Tidbinbilla space station, you are viewing the largest antenna complex within the Southern Hemisphere. You are able to view stunning images directly from Mars and on view is a piece of the actual moon that is over 3 billion years old. Numerous spacecraft models are on show including space hardware that has actually been flown. Visitors are also able to see what types of food astronauts eat when they are in space and see a movie telling of the past and future of exploration in space. You can eat lunch in the centre in the Moon Rock cafe and take a trip around the solar system.
